Print

Imagine this: after months of waiting, you’re finally granted a disability pension. Relief, joy, security. And now the big question: “Can I earn some extra money on the side? And what if it’s too much?” Every day I’m approached by clients who fear losing their pension simply because they want to stay active. The good news? You can earn extra income. The bad news? You need to be careful.

👉 Disability Pension – From Entitlement to Appeals (Main Guide)

People often search for: “extra income with disability pension 2025,” “how much can a level 1 disability recipient earn,” “disability level 3 and part-time work,” “disability and DPP contract,” or “disability pension and self-employment.” This article answers everything you need to know before signing a contract or starting your business.

1. Extra income is allowed – but regulated
Disability pension is not tied to a specific income limit like a widow’s pension. Technically, you can have high earnings. BUT the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) monitors whether the work is compatible with your health condition. In other words: you may lose your pension not because of how much you earn, but because your work doesn’t match your medical condition.

2. Popular income forms: DPP, DPČ, part-time, business
The most common types of work:

  • DPP (Agreement to perform work) – ideal for occasional jobs up to CZK 10,000/month.

  • DPČ (Agreement to work activity) – no strict income limit, but the nature of work is evaluated.

  • Part-time employment – fine, as long as it matches your residual working capacity.

  • Self-employment (OSVČ) – possible, but the work must not contradict your diagnosis (e.g., physically demanding jobs for someone with mobility limitations).

3. Work may trigger a pension review
Every disability pension is subject to periodic review to assess whether the reason for the disability still exists. If the authorities learn from medical records or even from social media that you’re working, this may lead to the reduction or withdrawal of your pension.

⚠️ Real-life Example

A client receiving level 2 disability for a chronic illness started working full-time as a warehouse assistant. Even though the job suited him, the review committee concluded that if he could physically handle an 8-hour shift, he was no longer disabled. His pension was withdrawn.

✅ Recommendation from the Lawyer

If you’re considering taking up work, I strongly recommend a prior consultation – not only with your doctor, but legally as well. It helps to have medical or other documentation confirming that the job fits your health limitations. If you’re self-employed, prepare a simple explanation of what your business involves.
