Investments via Instagram and Facebook: They Promise Returns, but Leave You with Nothing

Print

“It looked trustworthy – the logo of Česká spořitelna, professional charts, even an influencer recommendation. I tried it with CZK 5,000. Three days later, no one was replying.”

This scenario is frighteningly common. Social networks have become a goldmine for scammers, promising fast profits. Just click an ad or reply to a message.
They convince you with charts, “client stories,” and simulated payouts. Most importantly – they make it seem safe and official.
But the money doesn’t go to a stock market. It goes straight to the fraudsters’ accounts, and their ads continue.

Investment scams on Instagram and Facebook often exploit visual trust. Offenders impersonate banks, licensed brokers, or successful investors, using stolen logos, photos, or brand names.
After sending your “deposit,” communication stops—or you’re redirected to a fake platform.
This may qualify as fraud (Section 209 of the Czech Criminal Code), and also trademark misuse or deceptive advertising.
A timely and well-prepared criminal complaint can help stop the advertising and protect others.

📌 Typical Features of the Scam

  • Ads for “profitable returns” directly in your feed

  • Links to external websites, login forms, or WhatsApp contacts

  • Use of bank logos, influencers, or fake news articles (e.g., “Celebrity X earns millions”)

  • Creation of fake investment profiles or apps

  • Requests for money via transfers, payment gateways, or crypto

  • Later: pressure to invest more or no response at all

⚖️ Possible Criminal Charges

  • Fraud (Section 209 of the Criminal Code) – basic qualification

  • Trademark infringement (Section 268) – if a company name or logo is misused

  • Unfair competition / misleading business practices (civil law aspects)

  • Potential money laundering if funds are passed further

🧾 What Evidence to Collect

  • Screenshots of the ad, profile, and communication

  • Links to fake websites or apps

  • Payment receipts, bank statements, transfers

  • Any login details or personal data you submitted

  • Names of others involved, especially those who “recommended” it

❗ Real-World Warning

These scams are not the victim’s fault—they are designed to manipulate with strong psychological tactics.
Clients often describe feeling trapped—afraid to “lose their profit,” they invest more.
Scammers use fake assistants, support lines, and even Czech phone numbers.
A proper legal complaint can help shut down the ads and the fake profiles.
