Multiple Enforcements in the Czech Republic – What to Do If You Have More Than One Debt

Print

You’ve been notified about one enforcement order. You’re told part of your wages will be garnished.
You brace yourself.
But then… a second order comes. Then a third. Another debt collection letter arrives.
Suddenly, your salary disappears entirely.
“How can I have multiple enforcements?” people ask in disbelief.
This article is for exactly that situation. When you’re caught up in the system, you need to understand what’s going on – and how to fight back.

📌 This article is part of the complete legal guide for debtors: Debt Enforcement in the Czech Republic – Complete Guide for Debtors (Velký rozcestník)

People often search for terms like:

  • “How many enforcements do I have in the Czech Republic?”

  • “How can I find all my debts?”

  • “Why is my paycheck coming in two parts?”

  • “What is concurrent enforcement?”

  • “How are multiple garnishments calculated?”

This article answers those questions in plain language, with practical advice.

What You’ll Learn in This Article

– How to find out if you have more than one enforcement case
– What it means to have concurrent enforcements and how garnishments are calculated
– When multiple debts are handled by one bailiff – and when they’re not
– What can go wrong if you ignore the situation
– Legal options for handling multiple enforcements (e.g., insolvency, unification, partial termination)
– Real-life example and tips from a lawyer

1. How to Find Out How Many Enforcements You Have

The best place to start is the Central Register of Enforcements (CEE).
You can access it online at justice.cz or at any Czech POINT location.

📌 Note: The CEE only shows officially initiated enforcement proceedings – it does not include court cases, proposed actions, or insolvency.
To get the full picture, also:

  • Check the Insolvency Register (ISIR)

  • Ask your employer for a summary of wage garnishments

  • Check your bank account – which bailiff blocked it?

2. What Does It Mean to Have Multiple Enforcements?

You can have multiple enforcement proceedings running at once. The garnishment is divided according to Czech law.
Certain debts take priority – like child support, criminal restitution, or tax debts.
The rest is divided proportionally among other creditors.

You may face situations like:

  • One bailiff garnishing your salary,

  • Another blocking your bank account,

  • A third one sending notices by post…

👉 The result? Total chaos and financial paralysis if left unchecked.

⚠️ When Things Can Get Worse

  • If one of the debts is for unpaid child support – higher garnishments apply

  • If some creditors are unidentified or unreachable

  • If you ignore official notices – you might lose the chance to defend yourself

🧷 Lawyer’s Recommendations

✔ Get a clear overview – CEE extract and payslip details are essential
✔ If you have several debts, consider insolvency
✔ Assess each case – some may be challenged or reduced
✔ If costs are excessive, request partial termination
✔ Don’t delay – time works against you

⚖️ Case Example

A client had 5 different enforcements. The original debt was about CZK 70,000,
but due to interest, legal fees, and repeated charges, the amount climbed to CZK 180,000.
After filing three motions for termination and unifying enforcement actions under one bailiff, we managed to:

  • Reduce the amount by over CZK 60,000

  • Unify the process into a single proceeding
