Victim’s Interrogation – What to Expect and What to Watch Out For

Print

“I thought they’d be on my side – but it felt like I was the one on trial”

“They called me in for questioning. I expected understanding, but I felt like a suspect. They kept repeating tricky questions, made me doubt myself, and I left crying. I was the victim – so why did it feel like I was being accused?”

Sadly, this happens more often than you’d think.
As a victim, you have rights during interrogation – and you can prepare.

What are victims looking for?

  • What will they ask during questioning?

  • Do I have to go alone?

  • What if they pressure me?

  • Can I have a lawyer with me?

  • Can I refuse to answer something?

📌 What you’ll learn in this article:

  • What to expect during a police interrogation

  • What your rights are as a victim or witness

  • What to watch out for

  • How you can prepare

  • How I can help you – fixed-price support for CZK 10,000 + VAT

🧾 How the victim’s questioning works

The police may summon you either as a witness or a victim (injured party). In both cases, your statement plays a major role.

You will usually be:

  • Called to a police station

  • Questioned in a closed room

  • Asked to describe the incident in detail

  • Asked specific follow-up questions

The police might also check:

  • If your story is consistent

  • If you remember certain facts

  • If you contradict yourself

⚠️ What to watch out for?

❌ Questions that suggest guilt (“Didn’t you provoke them first?”)
❌ Leading or suggestive wording
❌ Psychological pressure (“You’re the only one saying that”)
❌ Making you sign something you don’t understand

✅ Your rights as a victim during questioning

  • You can have a legal representative (attorney) present

  • You can take time to think before answering

  • You can refuse to answer certain questions

  • You can ask for a break

  • You can check your statement before signing

If you’re a child, vulnerable person, or under stress, the police are required to adapt the process (e.g. presence of a support person, gentler approach).

💡 Lawyer’s advice:

✅ Don’t go alone – especially if you’re feeling anxious
✅ Read your statement carefully before signing
✅ Let me prepare you in advance or accompany you

You don’t have to go through questioning alone

📌 You’re the victim – not the suspect.

📞 I’ll help you prepare for police questioning or even accompany you in person.
