Can I Work While Receiving a Disability Pension in the Czech Republic?

Print

Many people receiving a Czech invalidity pension want to keep working — and that’s perfectly natural. But some are afraid. Will Social Security take their pension away if they get a job? Sadly, this fear is sometimes justified. Let’s look at what the law really says.

💼 You can work – but with limits

Czech law does not prohibit people with invalidity pensions from working. However, you must not do work that contradicts the medical reasons for your pension.

📌 What must be reported?

You are legally required to notify the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) about:

  • any change in your health condition,

  • any change in your job or employer,

  • any significant shift in the nature of your work.

It’s not about income – it’s about what kind of work you do and whether it matches your limitations.

⚠️ Risk of cancellation

The pension may be suspended or withdrawn if:

  • the work clearly contradicts the reason for your invalidity,

  • you don’t report it and ČSSZ finds out through other means,

  • you work “under the table” or as a freelancer in contradiction to your diagnosis.

✅ Lawyer’s recommendation

Before starting any new job, consult a professional. Keep documentation of your job duties. Don’t ignore letters from ČSSZ. And always report changes promptly.
