Print

Moving house is stressful enough on its own. But if you’re receiving a disability pension, it comes with extra complications. Many people don’t realize that moving to a different town, district—or even just changing their permanent address—can affect pension payments, health checks, assessment hearings, or the delivery of important documents. And if you forget to report the change? You could face unnecessary trouble.

Disability pension and change of address. Where do I report a change of residence? What if I move to another region? Will it affect medical assessments? Could I lose my pension if I don’t report it? This article answers the most frequently searched questions related to disability pensions and address changes.

What Must You Report When You Move?

If you receive a disability pension, you are required to report:

  1. Change of permanent address

  2. Change of correspondence address (if different)

  3. Change of GP or health insurance provider (optional but recommended)

  4. Change of phone number or email for communication

The permanent address is the most important factor, as it determines which local branch of the Czech Social Security Administration (OSSZ) is responsible.

Where to Report the Change?

You should notify the change of address to:

  • Your local OSSZ (District Social Security Office) – ideally in person, by mail, or via data box

  • Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) – especially if you are undergoing medical assessment

The change is not updated automatically from the national population register—you must report it directly.

Can This Affect Your Pension Payment or Amount?

  • It will not affect the amount of your pension.

  • But it may delay payment, especially if your pension is sent by mail or to your former address.

  • If delivery fails, the pension may be returned.

What If You Are Temporarily Living Elsewhere?

If your permanent residence differs from your actual residence (e.g. staying with family), it is recommended to report a correspondence address, especially if a medical check-up or social security meeting is expected.

What Happens If You Don’t Report the Change?

  • Mail from ČSSZ may be returned → your proceedings may be halted

  • Assessment may be scheduled at the wrong branch → delays

  • Pension payments may be suspended if the recipient cannot be contacted

  • In extreme cases, ČSSZ may initiate termination proceedings due to “unknown whereabouts”

Lawyer’s Recommendation

“In my experience, people often underestimate the paperwork when moving. But it only takes a few minutes to save months of problems. I recommend sending a written notification—ideally via data box—and keeping a confirmation of submission.”
advises the attorney
